Arizona Nursing Inclusive Excellence (ANIE)

We champion diversity as a core value central to our college mission. The purpose of the Arizona Nursing Inclusive Excellence (ANIE) program is to support students’ academic success during their program to ensure a more diversified nursing workforce.

Eligibility

Consideration will be given to full-time students that are from at least one of the following backgrounds:

  • American Indian/Alaskan Native or Native Hawaiian
  • Hispanic/Latino
  • First-generation college and/or graduate student
  • Raised in a rural area and/or along the Mexican-American border

  • Preparation for RN or APRN certification and job placement
  • Stipends awarded for full-time successful participation in program

Cohorts

Voyager Scholars

The Voyager cohort is comprised of first-year, first-semester Pre-Professional Nursing students already enrolled at the UA.

As part of the Voyager cohort, scholars will:

  • Complete two summer intensives (Summer 2020 & Summer 2021) in Tucson on the UA Campus. Intensives will include nursing skill development, academic enrichment activities and BSN program preparation.
  • Receive individualized mentoring from BSN peers, College of Nursing graduate students and select faculty
  • Participate in professional skills development
  • Receive individualized tutoring in prerequisites coursework
  • Have access to a College of Nursing Writing Coach and Academic Success Coach
  • Regularly meet with the ANIE Pre-Nursing Academic Advisor

Vanguard Scholars

The Vanguard cohort is comprised of first- and third-semester students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

As part of the Vanguard cohort, scholars will:

  • Receive individualized mentoring from BSN peers, CON graduate students and select faculty
  • Serve as mentors to the Voyager cohort
  • Participate in professional skills development
  • Receive individualized tutoring
  • Have access to a College of Nursing Writing Coach and Academic Success Coach
  • Regularly meet with the ANIE BSN Academic Advisor
  • First-semester students must participate in a summer intensives (Summer 2020) in Tucson on the UA Campus. The intensive will include nursing skill development, academic enrichment activities and NCLEX preparation

Pinnacle Scholars

The Pinnacle cohort is comprised of first- and second-year Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students.

As part of the Pinnacle cohort:

  • First-year students will complete two summer intensives immediately following the RISE experience in August 2019 and 2020 in Tucson
  • Second-year students will complete one summer intensive immediately following the RISE experience in August 2019 in Tucson

The summer intensives are designed as enrichment experiences to foster APRN skill development and networking, professional enrichment activities and APRN certification preparation.

Pinnacle scholars will:

  • Receive individualized mentoring from select faculty and community partners
  • Serve as mentors to Voyager and Vanguard scholars
  • Participate in professional skills development
  • Have access to a College of Nursing Writing Coach and Academic Success Coach
  • Regularly meet with Dr. Michelle Kahn-John, ANIE faculty fellow
