Academic Advising

Academic Advising Marquee

This is a big step, but you don’t have to take it alone.

Some students have their hearts set on a certain path, some aren’t sure which direction to go, and others might fall somewhere in between. For over 60 years, we have been working with students to find an educational path that leads them to a life-changing career. Our Academic Advisors can help take your passion and turn it into a profession.

If you are thinking about studying nursing and thinking about changing your major to Pre-Nursing, we are here to help! The Pre-Professional Nursing Program has minimum requirements and eligibility in order to declare the major. Visit the Prerequisites and Pre-Nursing page to learn more. Students unable to meet the Pre-Nursing requirements are encouraged to connect with the Pre-Health Advising Center for advising until they are eligible to declare Pre-Nursing or apply to the BSN program.

Once you meet the prerequisites and are ready to pursue a change of major, attend an Information Session or Application Workshop and get all the info you need.

Additional questions can be sent to CON-OSAA@arizona.edu or you can call 520-626-3808. You can also book an Academic Advising appointment or visit Drop-In Advising through Trellis.

Admissions Advisors are available to meet with current and prospective students to assist with the competitive application process for the BSN and MS-MEPN programs. Admissions Advisors are able to discuss application criteria, requirements, and deadlines.

All appointments are 20 minutes. To book an appointment please visit this link to see the calendar of the Admissions Advisors. To best prepare for your appointment, please have all of your unofficial transcripts downloaded and review the University of Arizona’s Transfer Credit Guide to preview applicability of coursework to the Nursing Programs.

For quick Admissions questions, you can visit Drop-In Advising on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:00am-1:00pm AZ time, baring holidays, university closure, and commencement events. During Drop-In Advising availability, you may go to our Zoom Advising Room to meet with an advisor.

Academic Advising is available to all current UA students and prospective students. Through Academic Advising Appointments, Drop-In Advising, and Advising emails, you are able to learn about your progress towards a degree in Nursing, navigate academic support resources, and reach your goals.

With several options for advising, please select the best one for your needs:

  • Advising Appointments are 30 minutes long and are best suited for more involved conversations surrounding: change of major requests, course planning, exploring options for transfer credit, GPA calculations, and general student challenges. Appointments are offered in a variety of modalities (In-Person, Zoom, and Phone) so select your preferred modality from those available when scheduling. You can book an Academic Advising Appointment through Trellis.
  • Drop-In Advising is for quick questions. Drop-in advising virtually, via Zoom, is available to all students of all majors and prospective students.
    • Through March 7, 2024, Drop-In Advising is available on Thursdays from 9:00am-3:00pm AZ time, barring holidays and commencement events.
    • Beginning March 12, 2024, Drop-In Advising is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:00am-1:00pm AZ time, baring holidays, university closure, and commencement events.
    • During Drop-In Advising availability, you may go to our Zoom Advising Room to meet with an advisor. You will be put into a waiting room in the order you queued up for, until the advisor pulls you in for your private drop-in advising session.
  • Email Advising is ideal for quick, general assistance. Some general tips include:
    • Always use your University of Arizona email address if you have one.
    • Include an explanatory Subject Line and salutation.
    • Clearly state the reason for your email. For example, is your question regarding admissions to a nursing program or about current course progress?
    • Politely make your request, and provide ample time for a response (we endeavor to respond promptly, but may be delayed at peak times or complicated situations).
    • Proofread for clarity and voice.

At the College of Nursing, we are invested in providing graduate students with the support they need to successfully complete their programs and thrive professionally.

Every DNP and PhD student is assigned a College of Nursing Faculty Advisor for help with course content, (and for DNP students) clinical guidance, and with the DNP project or PhD dissertation research.

DNP and PhD students also have an Doctoral Advisor in the Office of Student and Academic Affairs (OSAA). The Academic Advisor assists grad students with navigating the policies, requirements, and deadlines of the College of Nursing, the Graduate College, and the University. Students may also consider their Academic Advisor as their guide for when they have questions or concerns.

Please note: PhD students are required to contact potential faculty mentors to discuss research goals in relation to faculty expertise.

Are you a potential graduate student? Start by learning about our Research Areas of Excellence and the faculty members doing work in each area.

To connect with your Academic Advisor, stop by our office, give us a call, or send an email.
