BSN Traditional Program - Prerequisites

University of Arizona prerequisites or equivalent courses from other institutions (completed with a grade of C or better)

See the UA General Catalog for course descriptions.
Equivalent courses are also available at Arizona community colleges.


Prerequisite Courses:

Prerequisite GPA is based on grades in these courses.

One year English Composition:

ENGL 101 and 102 - First Year Composition

First semester Chemistry:
CHEM 101a - Lectures in General Chemistry
or CHEM 151 - General Chemistry I

Second semester Chemistry:
CHEM 101b - Lectures in General Chemistry
or CHEM 152 - General Chemistry II

Chemistry laboratory:
CHEM 102 - Lab in General Chemistry

or CHEM 151 or 152

One year Anatomy & Physiology:
PSIO 201 and 202—Anatomy and Physiology I & II

One semester Introductory Biology
MIC 181R— Introductory Biology

One semester Microbiology
MIC 205a—General Microbiology

One semester Statistics
MATH 160- Basic Statistics

or MATH 263 - Introduction to Statistics & Biostats

or PSYC 230 - Psychological Measurement & Stats

One semester Lifespan Development
FSHD 117 - Lifespan Human Development

or ED P 200 - Evolution and Human Development

One semester Human Nutrition:
NSC 310 - Principles of Human Nutrition in Health

or NATS 104 - Nutrition, Food & You

Additional Degree Requirements:

General Education
(Completion recommended by time of admission)

Tier I Individuals and Societies 2 courses
Tier I Traditions and Culture 2 courses
Tier II Individuals and Societies 1 course
Tier II Art 3 semester units
Tier II Humanities 1 course

One of the above courses should cover Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Culture, or Non-Western topics

Second Language
Proficiency at second-semester level in one second language or completion of two semesters of a second language
