University of Arizona -College of Nursing - BSN Traditional Program -Prerequisites

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)- Prerequisites

 In order to be eligible for professional admission, applicants must complete the following prerequisite courses.  All prerequisites must be completed with a grade of C or better.  The minimum prerequisite GPA (calculated based on this list) for admission consideration is a 3.0.

College of Nursing Prerequisites include:

One year English Composition (2 semesters)
One year General Chemistry (2 semesters, including laboratories)
One year Anatomy & Physiology (2 semesters including laboratories)
One semester Introductory Biology
One semester Microbiology
One semester Statistics
One semester Human Lifespan Development
One semester Human Nutrition

Equivalent courses are also available at Arizona community colleges. For courses taken at ANY institution in Arizona, please download and review the Arizona Course Equivalency Chart, which includes the exact courses that are acceptable for prerequisite transferability.

In order to match prerequisites taken at institutions other than the UA, please use the following guidelines:

  • Is the course the same number of credits (units) as the one offered at the UA?

  • Does the course have the same title (use similar words) as the one offered at the UA?

  • Does the course description use the same words/phrases/concepts as the one offered at the UA?

For courses taken out of state, please submit this form for each course you would like evaluated.

University of Arizona requirements:

The University of Arizona had additional degree requirements for General Education for Bachelor of Science candidates.  Please refer to the UA Academic Catalog for questions.  The College of Nursing recommends that the General Education requirements be completed prior to admission to the BSN program.  These requirements include:

Tier I Individuals and Societies (2 courses)
Tier I Traditions and Culture (2 courses)
Tier II Individuals and Societies (1 course)
Tier II Art (3 credits)
Tier II Humanities (1 course)
Proficiency at second-semester level in one second language or completion of two semesters of a second language.
